The University

The Universidad Alfredo Peréz Guerrero or UNAP has recently opened an extension campus in Gualaceo. In fact, evening classes will be held at the Liceo Nuevo Mundo. This is a top-level university that will be opening its doors to students in the Gualceo area for the first time in October 2006. Its course offering will be extremely varied with offerings for both pre-grad students (college-aged) and post grads. The focus will be on business with an in-depth look into promotions, communications, marketing, community outreach, ethics, accounting, and many other areas that contribute to starting and maintaining a successful enterprise. There will also be extensive instruction in English.

UNAP is interested in individuals who would be able to participate in the English instruction during the evening. There are benefits to hearing and practicing a new language with a native speaker. To that end, we would like to invite interested parties to consider spending some time with us on the plantation learning about orchids in exchange for spending some time at the University sharing your language. We would hope for volunteers who could spend some time here, 2-3 months in order to make substantial progress in both. We have a lot of orchids to learn a lot about. In addition, you will be immersed in Spanish and likely come away with a new language, or at least the foundation of such yourself.

The Liceo is situated just above the plantation, and in fact shares the hillside with several of our greenhouses. We have simple quarters at Ecuagenera that would serve as your comfortable home for the duration of your stay. The commute doesn?t get much easier.
